The Feral Child.

Anyone recalls of Genie? The girl who was neglected and abused by her mentally ill parents. In 1970, Genie was found strapped onto a potty chair and locked in a room at the age of 13years old. It was a severe case of neglect. Genie became an important case study to many linguists and psychologist, providing evidence for the argument of nurture against nature, an ongoing debate till today.

I stumbled across another story on Oprah's website , about Danielle, a 10-year old girl who was found in 2005 and her story was just as, if not more severe then Genie's. I see her as, the modern day Genie.

Click here for the full story.

Such a tragic reality. No child deserves to come into the world to be treated like this.
If you read the whole article you would know what I mean, and if you haven't you should. It took me awhile to search for the article because the video on Oprah's website did not provide the name of the child. I'm surprised that her case was not mentioned in any of my classes yet.

Sadly, these things do happen. So if you hate your parents, imagine parents like these? Do they even deserve to have children?

I really enjoy working with the kids I have. Their progress amazes me and gives me such satisfaction in what I do. Every child deserves to grow, to learn and to be given a chance in life.

I am definately not judging anyone for not having a close relationship with their parents. I myself, have friends who just aren't fortunate enough to have a good relationship with their family. However, the point of this story is the fact that we should appreciate everything in our life that's been given to us. Even when at times those things don't seem worth appreciating, it has made us who we are today. There could have been worst things.

We continue on our journey in life with a past that has made us stronger. It has shaped us and gave us a gift of understanding to others who are going through, what we have gone through.

Update: I found audios, just in case any of you are too lazy to go through the whole article. Click Here.

For the 100th time.

Jumping..

gives me a headache. I had to take aspirin for the migraine to go away.
I googled it and apparently it's called an exertion headache. I'm pretty sure I was breathing properly while doing my jumps. I hope I am not suffering from some sort of brain damage. (this is how a paranoid person studying brain and behavior thinks...I secretly think I suffer from hyperchondriasis...)

Anyhow, just finished studying for an exam tomorrow.
Heading to bed and hopefully all this information will consolidate and enter my long term memory. I'm going to wake up tomorrow to practice retrieving the facts. Perhaps it will be easier during the exam.

Sleep is way more important than late night studying.

Night.

Lettuce.

I've been diligently making my own lunch and dinner for the past week. No more eating out as I need to save money and eat HEALTHY!!
For the 1st week I've been eating Iceberg lettuce and got kind of sick of it, so I switched things up and decided to try the red leaf lettuce. It looks a lot messier and I had to cut it all up and put it into a salad bowl to store it. Out of curiosity, because this is what nerds like me do, I "googled" red leaf lettuce to find out how types of lettuces differ from one another.
To my surprise, the read leaf lettuce is a lot more healthier! :) Contains higher levels of Vitamin A and B!!

Anyways, this is what I had for lunch:

Chicken salad recipe: (in no particular order, since salad is easy to make)
- spinach
- red lettuce head
- onions
- tomatoes
- green onion
- sprinkle lemon on top
- chicken breast thats cut up nicely, fried with sesame oil and lemon juice.
- pumpkin seeds

For snack:
- low fat yogurt with whole wheat cereal and honey almond granola.
- an apple
- a handful of roasted sunflower seeds.

Dinner:
Boil:
- Tofu
- bak choi
- fish balls
- tomatoes.
- vermicilli

Kevin says my diet is stupid and I am so peeved. I'm not being unhealthy...I'm eating!! But I did take his advice and is now eating healthier..not by turning into a vegetarian then binging on food I love. (The Canada food guide really helps).

Also I TRY to do my workouts at night. I admit, it looks silly when I do it but it is actually really hard! Here's the video I got my workout from:

I did modify it, I don't use dumb-bells and instead of crawling around I do my situps: 100 of them.
*proudness*

Also...I don't repeat it.. haha..

V-day 2009

Kevin and I celebrated our second Valentine's day together. This year he prepared a candlelight dinner. ALSO...tickets to see Charlie Murphy in the Comic Strip. I didn't know who he was..but apparently famous and also the brother of Eddie Murphy. His Roast was DELICIOUS!! I personally thought the whole meal was better than any classy restaurant we've been to.
We had homemade mashed potatos, corn and squash spagetti (Very healthy and YUMMY!). He bought strawberry crepe for dessert (which I never got to eat because I was too full) and also a bottle of red wine. The bottle of red wine was expensive! The problem was that Kevin only had a sip of it and decided he doesn't like wine (no matter how he tried) so I had to think of ways to NOT waste it. I went online to google, to see how I can perserve it. But most advises were about decanters or putting it in a special bottle...I wanted to call my friend, but I knew everyone else were busy celebrating Valentine's day too. So I decided to drink most of it.
When I got up in the morning, this was how empty it was:
OMG. I finished a whole bottle of wine!:( There goes my diet!
I slept really early that night...Kevin said I was in the washroom and he had to use a toothpick to open it. And he found me sleeping on the floor. I have no recollection of going in there..all I remember that night was him throwing me in bed and saying how I am not ever getting a full bottle of wine again!
hehe..

Sorry for ruining the night babe. Below is a picture of ME, before dinner and drinking.
See, even girls with a big huge zit deserve to be loved!

On the 15th I had dinner with a few of my friends at Earls. I got to meet Elena's boyfriend..FINALLY. We all had a goooood time. (except it felt like I had to pop my ears every few minutes- it was def. from all that drinking). Kevin had to miss out on the dinner because his work was bullying him and made him work 2 shifts in a row!!

On the 16th I went shopping at West Edmonton Mall. Kevin returned his pair of jeans and also got me a pair of white gold earrings. I feel so pampered lately. But he can stop now..I don't want to be spoilt.
Even when he was being nice to me, I found time to lecture him about gift buying. I prefer gifts to be something chosen by the person giving it and also if they can, let it be a surprise. I totally dislike how a lot of girls bring their boyfriends to the mall and expect them to pay for things they like but can't afford. OR people who demand for their gifts! Gifts are suppose to be meaningful..it means so much more when there's a sentimental value behind it. I personally love the things that cost the least in a present. The way you wrapped it, what you wrote in the card...
So, BOYS! next time save your money and dont correlate expensive gifts with a girls happiness.

hmm..continuing on..
After shopping we went to Wildflower (a very fancy restaurant) to meet up with his mom and brother. They are such FOOD lovers! Everytime the waiter would introduce a dish to me I would have no idea what he just said. So when his mom asked me what was on my dish..all I could remember was pork and potato. haha..

Well, back to studying for the rest of the week. Kevin is getting his wisdom teeth extracted today...and I have lots of cleaning and studying to do!
