The Feral Child.

Anyone recalls of Genie? The girl who was neglected and abused by her mentally ill parents. In 1970, Genie was found strapped onto a potty chair and locked in a room at the age of 13years old. It was a severe case of neglect. Genie became an important case study to many linguists and psychologist, providing evidence for the argument of nurture against nature, an ongoing debate till today.

I stumbled across another story on Oprah's website , about Danielle, a 10-year old girl who was found in 2005 and her story was just as, if not more severe then Genie's. I see her as, the modern day Genie.

Such a tragic reality. No child deserves to come into the world to be treated like this.
If you read the whole article you would know what I mean, and if you haven't you should. It took me awhile to search for the article because the video on Oprah's website did not provide the name of the child. I'm surprised that her case was not mentioned in any of my classes yet.

Sadly, these things do happen. So if you hate your parents, imagine parents like these? Do they even deserve to have children?

I really enjoy working with the kids I have. Their progress amazes me and gives me such satisfaction in what I do. Every child deserves to grow, to learn and to be given a chance in life.

I am definately not judging anyone for not having a close relationship with their parents. I myself, have friends who just aren't fortunate enough to have a good relationship with their family. However, the point of this story is the fact that we should appreciate everything in our life that's been given to us. Even when at times those things don't seem worth appreciating, it has made us who we are today. There could have been worst things.

We continue on our journey in life with a past that has made us stronger. It has shaped us and gave us a gift of understanding to others who are going through, what we have gone through.

Update: I found audios, just in case any of you are too lazy to go through the whole article. Click Here.
